Have you wondered if Virtual Reality (VR) is really here to stay…is it just a fad? Well, another recent development has our visualization team pretty excited. Get this: FARO has released new software which allows for Real-Time VR rendering. That’s right! From the comfort of your office, SCENE 7.1 allows users to view an entire project, complete with all related scans in full 3D virtual reality using an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive VR headset.

Imagine a 360-degree camera that not only captures a spherical image but also collects the dimensions of everything around it. That’s sort of what the laser scanners do. In technical terms, they capture a point cloud that is a 1:1 scale 3D representation of a scene that includes object up to approximately 300 meters away.
