An animation in 2D is often used for dynamic illustrations of how a circuit works, or the flow of money though the banking system, or information through a cellular telephone network. 2D animations may be combined with a 3D animations quite effectively. DI technical artists can use a variety of tools to create an animation in 2D including Adobe Flash and the popular presentation tool Microsoft PowerPoint. The final product can be displayed as a movie, an interactive presentation or a slides show.
Typically, a 2D animation is used as a component of a larger presentation. For example, an animation of the flow of information through cellular telephone network may be integrated onto a slide in a Markman hearing presentation. The 2D animation would be used in a section on a specific claim term that needs to be construed in the context of that cellular telephone network.
